NOTD: Maybelline Drops of Jade

Posted by Halifax @ Sparkled Beauty

Remember I told you way back in May about Maybelline Polka Dots nail polish? I grabbed a number of shades off the display I found a week or two ago. Today I show you the first one: Drops of Jade, the pretties of them all, IMO.

That aqua/ teal base sure grabs attention, and the multi shapes and sizes of the glitters do not do a bad job either. I got lots of compliments wearing this, some thought I had my nails done at a salon :)

This is 2 coats of Drops of Jade, no base, with a top coat.

The glitters are dense enough that I didn't have to fish around for them. Dab and spread works best. White and black glitters, big and small, hex and circle are simple and complex at the same time. The base is quite squishy looking, like a jelly, after two coats, and I prefer it this way.

I don't really recommend building it up more than two coats though, as the glitters will crowd up your nails. Instead, you can opt for a teal colour base before painting Drops of Jade on top for opacity.

I suggested a colour base for another reason too. Removal was a war in itself lol. The tinted base came off very easily with normal rubbing, but the glitters stuck like glue on whatever they were applied on. Without a base, your nails were it!

The only way to go is the foil method or letting the nail polish remover tub (Sally Hansen, Bourjois, Quo, etc.) do the hard job. Still, I can't say that this part was enjoyable :)

Wear wise, Drops of Jade, without a base, last about two days on me. The chips happened to the jelly parts only, as like I said, the glitters were there to stay, did not go anywhere.

Read on to see what I did when the teal tint was removed :)

I recycled the mani by applying a sheer jelly nail polish in different colour on top.

This is L'Oreal Lilac Coolers, one of the gellies from the Miss Pop collection, two coats on top of the leftover glitters. I got myself a new mani, a purple Drops of Jade :)

I hope you all had a good long weekend and/or Canada Day celebration. It was raining all the way through today with a tiny sunny break yesterday afternoon. Fireworks were delayed, and Squirt and I stayed in to pack up my nail polish. You know you have too much stuff when ... lol. I'll leave it at that.

  1. How clever! I actually recently shared Drops of Jade on my blog if you want to check it out http://www.writingwhimsy.com/maybelline-color-show-drops-of-jade/
and complained about the removal as well... I also have the pink shade to test out soon but am sorta putting it off because of my difficulty removing. May have to go for a base colour after all. What other colours did you pick up?

  3. Ooh I love that you recycled this mani! So innovative! I used Blue Marks the Spot over another blue base and it was STILL hell to get off >_< Next time I'll put this over glue or Glitter a Peel.
