Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal

Posted by Halifax @ Sparkled Beauty

Omg, I had to interrupt the scheduled posts to bring you news about the new Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal.

You all know I love Maybelline Color Tattoos. When I heard there were 5 new metallic Color Tattoos coming out, I went hunting. The display I found them in was pretty bare already.

Note that they will be part of the permanent line starting January, so don't panic if they seem to be sold out at your store. However, for someone who needs as many colours for her eyeshadow base as she can get (i.e. me), I won't wait that long :)

Here they are.
First row: Barely Branded and Gold Rush

Second row: Inked in Pink and Electric Blue.

Metallic finish means more possibilities of wearing these colours as eyeshadows by themselves, not just as bases for other powder eyeshadows. I'll drink to that!

In the pot, all four look amazingly beautiful. It pains me to swipe my brush onto that smooth surface of the pots, but I did it, for you :) The creamy texture was certainly a treat to the brush, and to the hand that held it. Now I want to make a poem for these... Just kidding :)

Swatches with a synthetic brush, with softer light. My first notice was the colours were more subtle than how they looked in the pots.

Barely Branded is a nude with metallic shine (duh). Colour wise, my guess is this is Maybelline's version of MAC Bare Study but I can't confirm since I don't own the MAC one.

EDIT: Barely Branded (yellow undertone) is a little more tan than the LE (Fall release) Barely Beige (pink undertone), if you are wondering.

Gold Rush has the craziest shimmers/ glass flecks, it screams holiday the loudest. I already get a backup of this, as soon as I saw it.

More direct flash in this pic.

Inked in Pink is the creamiest of the four, plus a strong metallic finish. I normally don't go for pinks but this pink is definitely good to have. I am wearing it today, it sure looks subtle.

I kinda hoped Electric Blue lived up to its name and be a crazy deep blue. But it showed up as a sheerer blue with purple tint (a little darker IRL), and the weakest metallic effect. Having said that, Electric Blue is the closest to a smoky base I can get until Maybelline maybe one day decide to give us the black Color Tattoo that was released in Europe months ago.

This pic is blurred out to show the sparkles. You gotta enlarge the pic, you gotta!

So the verdict: if you love the festive looks, definitely get Gold Rush. If you are looking for a light colour with some kick, try Inked in Pink. Only get Electric Blue if you need a alternative darker base or like the purple-ish blue colour.

And I don't think Barely Branded needs any further recommendation, considering so may of you have been asking Maybelline for more neutral Color Tattoos.

My twitter pal sent me a link to this picture from Maybelline Tumblr last night and I thought it's helpful to add it here so you can see the fifth shade - a silver/ white.

If you haven't got Too Cool (a sheer white) from previous release (which I assume the similarity to this silver), give it a try as well.

The Color Tattoo Metals retail for $8.99 each. If you are in the Maritimes, Maybelline is 30% off this week at Lawtons. Flyer switches tomorrow, so get on it! :)

The display lands at some Shoppers already too, but no sale this week. Walmart has Color Tattoos for $7 starting tomorrow but I'm not sure they will have these in yet.

  1. I don't know...we've already seen all these colors...maybe I would pick up the beige but still not impressed. However I really like their matte shades :)

    1. No the blue is very unique, but the swatch is showing it looking silver? I own all the colors and if you swatch the blue with your finger and apply it that way it is almost a duochrome navy. It is a navy with purple undertones, it looks so cool. Gold Rush is also WAYY brighter than it appears here (imagine an actual gold block) :-). It may have been that they were applied with a brush and maybe the camera used? The blue one and gold one in the pic don't look anything like in real life. Love this blog BTW so not hating on your pics girly ;-). I just don't want the readers to miss out buying these because the colors are a teeny bit off ;-). These are always best applied with fingers as well for best vibrancy :-). I apply them with a brush when I want a more subtle look though :-) Love your blog and can't wait to see more reviews. Passing Fancy, I hope my description swayed you a tad ;-).

    2. Thanks for your comment. I always use a brush with Color Tattoos, so I wouldn't know about the swatches with a finger, great to know now. I just hate to dig into the pot with my finger, that was why.

  2. Great post! I'm so obsessed with color tattoos, it's almost kinda embarrassing! The Barely Branded one looks a lot like the one released in fall: Barely Beige. So excited for these to come out in the U.S.!

  4. Thank you for this! I was looking all over for the Barely Beige but can't find it so I'm glad that there is an alternative from the same brand :)

    1. One of the ones I have turns dry too, so they aren't always perfect, but I use all the ones I have. Underneath eyeshadows, they aren't as scary/ crazy :)

  6. Glad I didn't pick any up when I saw them today at Superstore - the only one that sort of interested me was the blue but the metallic finish just doesn't do it for me. Great swatches, though! Wish they'd bring the other 4 le fall color tattoos to Canada :(

    1. I don't see any distribution restrictions, so I'd assume they'd be in all drugstores. People had found them at Shoppers already, so that's confirmed. Walmart would prob have them soon, if not already :) Thanks for reading

  9. Great swatches! I really wish they would've made the previous line permanent. I'm not too crazy about these. That gold one is gorgeous, though!

    1. I actually have the same wish, the more the merrier. I didn't regret picking these up though, great bases when you don't want to wear them alone :)
