George's Cream moisturizers

Posted by Halifax @ Sparkled Beauty

Yes it's winter. A Canadian moisturizer sounds really good right now to take care of our horrible winter skin issues. Check out George's Cream.

I enjoy the story about George Doherty, an Albertan pharmacist, created a dry skin cream over 15 years ago. It had to be richer and more moisturizing than other products on the market, with fewer ingredients (i.e. less irritants).

And he did it. The products work great (at least for me). The bottles say no lanolin, urea or paraben, no additives, irritants, fragrance and colouring. And they are hypoallergenic. Yee haw!

There are 2 options for the moisturizers, depending on your skin condition and choice. I'm showing you the swatches in the same order as the products are in the first pic.

On the left is the original George's Special Dry Skin cream, 30ml, retails $2.99. Also available in 90ml tube ($6.49) and 450g jar ($14.99), very reasonably priced.
Ingredients: Deionized Water, White Petrolatum, Cetyl Alcohol, Polysorbate-20, Polysorbate-80, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Phenoxy Ethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid.

Supposed to provide healing with long lasting effects for lots of skin conditions - eczema, psoriasis, sun/ wind burn, winter itch, flaky skin, dry hands and cracked cuticles or for sporty guys and gals (sport chafing suffered by runners, cyclists, itch by swimmers, etc.), or foot problems including those associated with diabetes. Impressive list, isn't it?

If you have one of the above issues, I'd suggest this version of the moisturizer. This winder I developed itchy skin around my wrists and upper arms. Been saving this one for times I wanted to scratch my skin out.

On the right is George's Light Special Moisturizing lotion, 360ml, retails $10.99. Also available in 30ml tube ($2.99). As the name suggests, it's the lighter version of the Special Dry Skin cream.

The textures of the cream and the lotion show up quite well in the pics, you can tell the difference. I personally prefer the lotion, as it feels light and absorbs quicker. For before bed routine, I use the cream on my hand and wrists, and the lotion for the rest of the body. Work great!

Ingredients: Deionized Water, White Petrolatum, Glyceryl Stearate & PEG-100 Stearate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol & Caprylyl Glycol & Sorbic Acid, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Tocopherol (Vitamin E).

Check George's Cream out next time you are in Shoppers, Superstore/ Loblaws or Pharmasave. He seems to know our winter skin concerns well and addresses it properly with his products :)

  1. I loooooooooooooooove these products so much! They relieve my super itchy and eczema-prone skin so fast - so far, the only thing I have found that can compare is The Body Shop Shea Body Butter.
