The Uniform Project

Posted by Halifax @ Sparkled Beauty

As the title indicated, this post is not makeup-related, but I feel inspired and thought I'd share with you about this wonderful idea (for a good cause) of the Uniform Project - 1 dress, 365 days.

I can't remember how I came to the website, but I was fascinated by the idea and the good cause behind it. The story is this young lady named Sheena Matheiken decided to start a project where she pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion. She will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accoutrements, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. She thinks of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like she just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir (from the website). Note that she does this to fundraise for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India.

Now my sense of fashion sucks, and I always have a hard time picking out what to wear in the morning. Picking it out the night before even worse, as I always change my mind when it's time to get dress :-)

How creative is that to be able to find a versatile dress and to make it work the whole year with that dress as the basic? I found some answers from the What's This All About section, so feel free to read at your pleasure.

Imagine how much money could we could save for not having to do clothes shopping like I did last weekend, lol? The looks I featured are Slimmy dipping and Harajuku moxie, two of my favorites. Sheena adds $1 to the fund jar herself everyday she does the project which at the end will be enough to sponsor 1 child for school. She posted day-110 look yesterday and just hit the $10,000 mark on donation. Amazing!

Besides the meaningful purposes of the project, it also hits me that accessories speak louder than I assumed they would, and they could totally change the look of an outfit.

Tell me ladies, are you a professional fashionista? And do you think you can make 1 simple dress work for that many different looks?

Now this part is makeup-related: I think the concept can apply the same way to makeup. I have seen fellow bloggers promoting looks using the same makeup items over a period of time (the lastest challenge that I know of is by Michelle at Lipstick Rules - 1 lip product, 5 days). I'm not that creative, so don't know I can pull off different looks, but maybe some of you can. Update me if you are doing any project of this kind.
